Before You Begin

The post builder is designed to build posts at a standard height of 960mm, which is the most common height when installing balustrade. A post at 960mm height combined with a 40mm handrail will give your balustrade a total height of 1 metre, which is required to meet NCC Regulation. If you would like a custom post height, you can not use the post builder, however you can contact us by phone 1800 022 122 or email [email protected] to place your order.

The height required on a staircase to meet NCC Regulation is 865mm, however it is common to use a 1 metre height for a uniform look. Angled sections are available for stairs only, if you are building a ramp, please contact Miami Stainless to discuss your requirements.

Choose Post Type

You have 4 options when choosing your post: Square, Round, Flat/RHS and Glass.

  • Square - Available in 2" size, mirror polish and satin finish. These posts are manufactured to order at Miami Stainless to your specifications. These posts suit flat handrail only.
  • Round - Available in 2" size and 1" option for intermediate posts in mirror polish and satin finish. The 2" posts are the latest pre-fabricated ProRig posts that include fully welded top fitting, heavy duty base plate and cover plate. The 1" posts are available using custom posts only that have a glue-in top fitting and Econ base plate and cover plate. If you are thinking about using a 1" intermediate round post, and want consistency among post types, please contact Miami Stainless to order your 2" custom posts. All round posts can suit flat or round handrail.
  • Flat/RHS - Available in 40mm x 5mm flat bar in satin finish only, and 50mm x 10mm rectangular hollow section (RHS) in both mirror polish and satin finish. These posts are used as an alternative intermediate post that give a minimalist look. These posts suit flat handrail only.
  • Glass - Glass posts are made to suit glass clamps, which can be purchased separately online or by contacting Miami Stainless. Posts are available in square and round that come in mirror polish and satin finish. Holes for glass clamps are commonly drilled to our standard of 200mm from the top and 200mm from the bottom, however you have the option to enter a custom measurement. Square posts suit flat handrail only, round posts suit both round and flat handrail.

Choose Post Application

End and Intermediate posts can be made to suit a straight or angled section. Corner posts can be made to suit straight sections only. When entering the angle of your post, measure the angle between the bottom landing and the underside of the stairs and enter your measurement in degrees up to 45.

Choose Measurement Type

If you are installating a straight section, you can choose to meet NCC Regulation by installing 11 wires at 80mm apart, alternatively you can enter custom measurements.

If you are installating an angled section, you can choose to meet NCC Regulation by installing 9 wires at 80mm apart when your post is in the centre of your tread (see diagram). This is the most common and cost effective method of installing wire balustrade on stairs, however you can choose to enter a custom measurement to use up to 11 wires for a more uniform look.

Do You Require Blind Nut Rivet Installation?

Miami Stainless can insert blind nut rivets into posts to save you time on installation and elimiate the need for a nut rivet tool. Wire balustrade systems that require blind nut rivets are the Jaw Swage Bottlescrew, Jaw Swage Bottlescrew with Flip Toggle, Nutsert Swage Stud and Nutsert Tension Rod. Trade discounts are automatically applied after you log in to your trade approved account.

Choosing your Blind Nut Rivet or Hole Size

If you choose to have Miami Stainless install blind nut rivets, you must choose the wire balustrade system you are installing so we can determine the correct blind nut rivet size. If you would like us to install a custom blind nut rivet size, please specify this using the Custom option.

If you choose not to have blind nut rivets installed, you must choose the wire balustrade system you are installing so we can determine the correct hole size. Alternatively you can enter a custom hole size.

More information about our systems can be found on our Systems page.

Are you inserting Grommets?
Specify if you are inserting grommets into your round or square intermediate posts and we will adjust the hole size. Miami Stainless doesn't offer grommet insertion.
